The Gadget Show's Amy Williams: 'I am the crazy challenge girl!'

She's used to hurtling down icy tracks on what would appear to be little more than a tea tray. So for Amy Williams MBE, hosting Channel 5's The Gadget Show, must seem like a piece of cake.

The 32-year-old Olympic gold medallist and former skeleton bob champion will be joining regulars Ortis Deley, Jon Bentley and Jason Bradbury to front the new 15-part series.

'I think I've been brought in as the slightly crazy challenge girl,' she laughs. 'I've travelled to Europe and the States for loads of weird and wonderful activities, from trying out next-generation emergency rescue vehicles to personal flying machines.

'I've been constantly surrounded by gadgets throughout the course of my career but I'm still shocked at the innovation out there.'

The Gadget Show will be marking 10 years on air and as part of the celebrations presenters will consider what a decade of technological evolution has meant for consumer gadgets.

Jon looks at how far televisions have evolved, with footage by Aardman Animation (Wallace And Gromit) while Jason demonstrates how realistic virtual reality has become.

The presenters will be allowed to destroy gadgets that have annoyed or disappointed them most during the last 10 years.

Amy says she's had fun filming. 'Who knows what the team will throw at me next?' she says. 'They've not let me down so far!'

The Gadget Show, Monday, 7PM, CHANNEL 5
