When it comes to #FirstWorldProblems, travel woes typically take the cake. To paraphrase your mother's dinner time admonishments: There are starving children in the world who don't even have mini-bars!
With that disclaimer in mind, we'd like to take a moment to bemoan a major pet peeve: hotel rooms with air so dry, you could cure your own ham in the time it takes for the shower to warm up. If you have sinus issues, you know you're in for a night of hell. Even if you don't, an especially dry hotel room might mean you wake in the morning with a nosebleed and lips chapped enough to whittle a whistle.
Depending on your tolerance for such things, the Stadler Form Jerry portable humidifier ($50, available here) might be the travel gadget that earns a new place in your overnight bag. It bills itself as the 'smallest travel humidifier on the market' and weighs less than half a pound. And it works with any standard-sized bottle of water. Didn't finish that Poland Springs from the airport? Invert it on top of the unit, and use it to create a powerful little vapor that will restore healthy humidity to your hotel room. The unit even comes with a transcontinental AC adapter and interchangeable plugs, so you can use it anywhere in North America, Europe or Asia.
What are your thoughts, fellow travelers? At $50, it's on the higher end of the spectrum, as far as travel-sized humidifiers go – but does its lightweight design make it worthwhile? Travel junk, or indispensable personal amenity?
Tell us below. And confess: What's the most frivolous travel gadget you've purchased?
