One of the many new devices Apple launched yesterday was the new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display, which is now thinner and lighter, with enhanced specifications such as next-generation Haswell chips and Iris graphics solutions from Intel, and a more affordable price point of $1,299 and up. That's $200 less than the previous 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro, and a good deal considering all the improvements.
The new 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro is considerably thinner and lighter than the previous generation, with a weight of 3.46 pounds and thickness of 0.71 inches. Other improved specifications include battery life at nine hours per charge, up from a previous seven hours, the new OS X Mavericks operating platform, and, as stated above, Intel's new Haswell processors and the company's latest Iris GPU.
Specifications of the base 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display include a 2.5 GHz Intel i5 Haswell processor and 4 GB RAM,128 GB solid-state drive space. Those looking for more speed can opt for Intel i7 chips clocked at up to 2.8 GHz, with Turbo Boost at a maximum 3.3 GHz.
Key features of the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro include faster PCIe flash technology, new 802.11ac Wi-Fi support similar to that on the MacBook Air midyear refresh and two next-generation Thunderbolt ports capable of transfer rates of up to 20 GB/s throughput.
Additionally, those hoping to purchase a new MacBook Pro but are still on OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard or OS X 10.8 Lion can enjoy hassle-free data transfer through Apple's new Migration Assistant software.
