The Qualcomm Snapdragon Photobooth isn't a gadget you can buy, but it is the coolest thing we've seen this week.

Made up of 130 HTC One smartphones neatly arranged around a spiral housing unit, the Snapdragon Photobooth can take a 540 degree picture.

Do you remember watching The Matrix when it was released and being wow-ed by that bullet time effect that cost millions of dollars to make?

It almost seems ridiculous that 130 phones that you or I could own can now create the same picture.

But, were we to have a lot of friends with the same phone, a router and the technical know-how to rig it all together, we could.

Using phones powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor (hence the name of the photobooth), a revolving picture is created.

MailOnline spoke to Raj Talluri, senior vice president of product management at Qualcomm, about the Snapdragon Photobooth.

He said: 'It shows how much unbelievable modern technology is in the smartphone. For example, when we do the photobooth, we're actually shooting at 60 frames per second and all of them are connected over Wi-Fi to the router.

'And we can synchronise them at take all the video from these 140 phones and create that 540 degree view. The quality of the camera, the speed of the device... it just shows you what you can do with a smartphone now, that would have taken a lot of expensive equipment to do before.

'These are just phones that you can buy. We wanted to show how far Snapdragon has advanced the technology in phones today.

'I don't see many cameras about. Most people are shooting with smartphones now. They are taking more video and pictures with these phones.

'And in the future we will be able to do it at even higher resolutions. That one is being done at 720p, but soon we can do that in 4K, and that will be really impressive. The best is yet to come.'

He added: 'If we were innovating in automobile design and engineering at the same pace we are in smartphone development, we'd all be zipping around in flying cars by now!'
