LONDON - Ben Whishaw, the latest actor to play the famous Q character in the James Bond franchise, opened the latest state of the art stage facility at U.K. studio facility Pinewood.
The stage, aptly called the Q Stage after the role, reflects the amount of filming the producers of the Bond films Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have done over the years.
Pinewood, long-regarded by most as the home of the James Bond franchise after a long-standing facilities relationship, already boasts landmarks including the 007 Stage, 007 Drive, Goldfinger Avenue and Broccoli Road.
The Q Stage is 30,000 sq. ft. and has 15,000 sq. ft. of production accommodation and workshops.
Pinewood's newest stage was completed Sept. 27.
Whishaw, who plays Bond's gadget guru Q, fittingly declared the new stage open by unveiling the Q Stage sign with a specially designed gadget made by Pinewood based prop specialists, PropShop.
The Q Stage follows a similar model to Pinewood's Richard Attenborough Stage, which opened in 2011 and has already hosted films including Les Miserables, Jack Ryan and Ridley Scott's Exodus, as well as TV shows such as the most recent series of The Voice U.K.
Pinewood Shepperton director of strategy and communications Andrew Smith said the facility continues to invest in its infrastructure 'to ensure it offers all types of production the most state of the art, secure and flexible stages possible.'
Broccoli and Wilson were on hand to help celebrate the opening.
