Beating out major competition from Apple and Microsoft, Google took top honors from Time Magazine this week in its list of top gadgets of 2013.
The Google Chromecast, a $35 plug-in media streaming device, was named best gadget.
The Chromecast is a digital streaming adapter in the form of a 2.83-inch dongle. The device plays audio and video content on a high-definition television by streaming it via Wi-Fi from the Internet.
Basically, with Chromecast, you can watch a variety of online entertainment on your HDTV - like music, movies and TV shows from Netflix, YouTube, HBO GO, Hulu Plus, Google Play Movies and more.
You can also use Chromecast to send videos and more from your smartphone, tablet or laptop to your TV with the press of a button.
Time complimented Chromecast's 'simplicity' and said, 'lots of companies have built devices to do this; Chromecast is the first one that gets it right.'
Apple missed the top spot for the first time since 2010. The iPad Air and iPad Mini were named the second best gadgets. Time described them as the 'best tablet you can buy, in two convenient sizes.'
Apple's iPhone 5S nabbed fifth place, making Apple the only company with two products in the top 10.
