ALLIED AND DESIGN NEWS REWARD GADGET FREAK DESIGNERS

FORT WORTH, Texas, July 1, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Allied Electronics, a trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE: ECM), announced today that, in conjunction with Design News, the award amounts for the Gadget Freak of the Year winners have been increased to $6,000 for the top winner, and $2,000 each for two runners up. The Gadget Freak feature in Design News spotlights reader-created designs submitted to the magazine. Each gadget that is selected for publication competes for a monthly cash prize of $500, and those winners then go head-to-head in Gadget Freak of the Year. Last year's winner, Andrew Morris, designed a device that translates a stroke patient's groan into an audible signal to alert on-site aids that assistance is needed. 'We're pleased to increase the amount of the prizes, as we're confident that this will encourage even more inventors to submit potentially life-changing gadgets,' said Gabriel Reichman, Allied's Customer Marketing Manager. 'I'm always amazed by the high level of ingenuity and creativity these inventors demonstrate, and I'm looking forward to being even more impressed this year.' The Gadget Freak contest is an ongoing feature in Design News and is open to anyone.About Allied Electronics
