Allied Electronics Inc. of Fort Worth and Design News magazine have increased the award money for Gadget Freak of the Year, a contest that the Fort Worth industrial products distributor is sponsoring.
Gadget Freak, a feature in Design News magazine, spotlights reader-created designs submitted to the publication. Each gadget selected for publication competes for a monthly cash prize of $500, with winners competing in Gadget Freak of the Year. Allied's announcement raises this year's award money to $6,000 for the top winner, and $2,000 each for two runners up.
Last year's winner, Andrew Morris, designed a device translating a stroke patient's groan into an audible signal to alert on-site aids that assistance is needed.
'We're pleased to increase the amount of the prizes, as we're confident that this will encourage even more inventors to submit potentially life-changing gadgets,' said Gabriel Reichman, Allied's customer marketing manager in a news release.
